HOW TO MAKE A BED BASE

In New Zealand an average bed base sells for around $200 and up, since this seemed a high price to pay for somthing that just holds up the mattress we decided to make our own.

after carefully measuring the mattress we went to the lumber shop, and for $107 got 2x4s for the sides a 2x3 for the center support ,lots of 3x1s for the slats and a bit of 4x4 for the legs, this price also included a hammer and some small nails for the slats.

The Bed was simply a rectangle of 2x4 with a central suport ( for the slats ) of 2x3 down the center, along the sides the slats would be suported down each side by another 1x3 nailed in parallel to the side 2x4s

Here I have the 2x4 and central 2x3 layed out ready for the nails. Note also the 1x3s along each side, and at the left of the pic, the 4x4 which was to be cut into square blocks for the legs/feet

PIC2

In this pic I am just measuring the length so that I could work out how many slats to put down, they ended up about 6in between centers, note the feet are now attached.

This is what I thaught was the finished product.

But as you can see from this pic there was a slight miss calculation with the measurments :-)))
